First an eco-table lamp, then a customisable table lamp and now… onto cordless, portable battery-operated lamps: the rechargeable charcoal glass table lamp in collaboration with Swoon. No nasty wires…finally!

We’ve had a pretty fantastic summer here at houseof, and momentum continues to climb as we fall into Autumn. As we bask in the glory of our XOU light appearing on the Dezeen award's longlist and its feature on DesignMilk; we launch our first-ever customisable table lamp, The Seed Lamp, with interior designer (and first customer) Dan Lovatt. Not only that, we celebrate reaching our fundraising target with Seedrs and launch lighting accessories… and now, what’s this about cordless table lamps?

This month we have partnered with design-led furniture brand Swoon, to create the sideboard collection, a collection composed of 4 unique and distinctive table lamps. Like us, Swoon are home obsessed, and their iconic sideboards in particular have earned them serious design credentials. With help from our friends at Swoon, we rid ourselves of wires to create the rechargeable charcoal glass table lamp; proof that you can combine practicality, style and affordability!

Set within a charcoal glass bowl, our glowing opal ball bulb has a touch sensor dimmer that brightens up to four levels to create a celestial feel that is reminiscent of a full moon. Our portable moon is perfect for coffee tables and shelves as it doesn’t have to be close to plug sockets anymore - score! As the evening draws in and the light gets brighter, the globe appears suspended in the air, a truly hypnotic sight. The rechargeable charcoal glass table lamp is a great investment and a great present for family and friends.

The change in work dynamic that the pandemic brought about has encouraged us to work from home, allowing us and our laptops to be anywhere around the house (and the world!) Whether you work better more formally at a desk or constantly move about across the day to inspire productivity - or just moving closer to the kitchen fridge - this table lamp can follow behind whilst adapting to different levels of light with its dimmer.

The lamp takes 3 hours to reach full charge with a battery life of around 300 completed charge cycles. So not only have we given the wires the boot, the charging wires won’t have to show their faces very often either!

So it’s a simple idea with great consequences, there will be no more tripping over wires or stretching them beyond their reach to areas that need light. They are the perfect portable centrepiece for a table; the ideal ‘instant-office’ table lamp, and a wonderful solution to lighting up your sideboards.
