Joyful Yellow

The sun makes everything better. Even in the deepest, darkest months, a blue sky and bright yellow sun can lift my mood unfailingly. Over recent years, I have relied so heavily on a sunny day to boost my general wellbeing, to mentally (and literally) lift dark clouds. How much easier is it to get out of bed in the morning and embrace the day when the sun is shining!? Our new cheerful yellow is inspired by the feeling a warm sunny day evokes.

Golden Yolk

I chose our new colour, which we have named Yolk, during a time when we are craving those moments of joy more than ever. We all need the sunshine, optimism and joy conveyed by the colour yellow. Decorating with yellow, even in small doses, will lift your spirits and help you feel energised.

Sunny yellow brings in a touch of warmth and optimism to a room, perfect for bringing a sense of positivity into the home, says Justyna Korczynska, senior designer at Crown.

A Happy Home

At houseof, we create lights that make your home happier. The colour yellow is a cheerful hue that promotes positivity and joy; pops of yellow in your interiors will provide a boost of happiness when you are least expecting it.

Decorating wall-to-wall overwhelmingly in yellow may not have the desired effect. Yellow is a very energetic colour that encourages creativity, so choosing bright yellow walls in the bedroom could overstimulate the senses when you want to sleep. Using yellow as an accent or highlight colour, in the form of lighting or accessories, will add brightness to a room.

Where is best to use yellow in your room?

Yellow is a colour that evokes happiness and positivity. It is perfect for areas of the home where there is much activity and socialising, such as the kitchen and dining room, where it adds energy and vitality, says Andy Greenall, head of design, Paint & Paper Library.

For those less confident with colour, yellow is a great accent colour and complements other room schemes effortlessly. You could use yellow to create a fun focal point in a room you feel lacks personality. The use of yellow is particularly effective in darker spaces as it creates a feeling of warmth.

Yellow is a versatile colour that works with many other shades, so don’t feel afraid to incorporate it into your existing decor schemes. Our diffuser floor lamp or round diffused wall lights are the perfect introductions to this uplifting colour.
